What Are Your Values?

WE HAVE VALUES THAT DRIVE US AND VALUES THAT DEFINE US.

ALL OF THESE ARE IMPORTANT IN A RELATIONSHIP. YOUR JOURNEY TO FINDING YOUR RIGHT PARTNER STARTS WITH DISCOVERING YOUR VALUES.

Values are the guiding principles behind all of our actions and decisions. At the root of it, it always boils down to values. When people ask you 'What motivates you?', 'What inspires you?', the real question that is being asked is 'what are your values?'

Background: The Theory of Basic Human values was developed by Schalom H. Schwartz. This theory tries to measure universal values that would be recognized by individuals despite background or culture. Schwartz's theory identifies ten such motivationally distinct values and explores the relationship between them.

These values can be considered in four groups:

OPEN-NESS TO CHANGE

1. Self-Direction
2. Stimulation

SELF-ENHANCEMENT

3. Hedonism
4. Achievement
5. Power

CONSERVATION

6. Security
7. Conformity
8. Tradition

SELF-TRANSCENDENCE

9. Benevolence
10. Universalism

Consider this: Being with a partner that shares the same key values with you is the cornerstone of a good foundation that

a relationship can be built on. Its hard though to know if they share your values if you don't know them yourself.

Tell me more: The Theory of  Ten Universal Values article expands further on the values listed above  and its a quick read.
